One of the most ReTweeted tweets of 2015. Twitter remains the place for breaking and real time news discovery. June 26th, 2015

Hi:

The most RT (retweeted) political tweet of the year is of particular importance to my life. My youngest brother got married to the love of his life. #LoveWins.

In 2015 we have seen Facebook’s continued domination as the social media platform that the world uses, while Twitter remains the breaking news front page of the world.

Every year someone writes that Facebook is going to implode, that the youth are leaving it in droves, and that the (fill in the blank) platform is the next big thing (remember Ello?).

And every year Facebook continues to evolve and dominate the social media economy. They have done this through a singular focus on their customers and users, rather than attempt to monetize every single interaction. They have also been very smart (and lucky) with their mergers and acquisitions (instagram, WhatsApp, etc).

The two stats that resonate with me are:

  • Mobile: Facebook has over 800 million daily mobile users and almost all their 2015 growth is due to mobile ads. Are you a mobile organization? Are you optimized to provide content to your members and users on mobile platforms?
  • News: The majority of Americans get their news from Facebook. Think about that. Are you producing content that is optimized for sharing on facebook? Forget about how great it looks on your website. Remember, most people will see YOUR content on Facebook. Does it look good there?

What have you seen as a major trend this year?

What I have for you:

  • Video dominates in 2015: Facebook is making a play to be the video distribution platform of the internet and is doing an amazing job. 8 billion views a day now. YouTube, however, is not going away.
  • Video: Twitter’s highlight of 2015 and the YouTube Rewind for 2015.
