Hi,

I’m going to give away my secret to consistently winning the social media “viral” content engagement war.

What is that secret weapon?

CrowdTangle!

Good news?  What used to cost over $1k a year for access is now free.

CT allows me to see, right NOW, what content is performing within ANY category or interest group I create.

HOW I use it:

  1. Track and Monitor what content is working for the competition and my clients.   ACTION:  1)  Share similar content 2)  Create unique content.
  2. Build lists of pages to monitor what content is going viral now.
  3. Discover who the biggest influencers are in a particular area of interest.  ACTION:  Make sure that we are following them and reaching out to them as appropriate.
  4. Track the influencers, politicians, celebs and what they are doing on social.  ACTION:  Make sure that we are following them with our accounts and engaging with them as appropriate.
  5. Benchmark.    I use the leaderboard feature to benchmark my clients to other leaders in their space.    Every morning I receive an automated email with the top 10 orgs on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram in specific areas (think climate change).  ACTION:   Make sure that my clients are in the top 5 every week on social media for their category.

What I have this week for you:

What I’m Reading:

  • Top 10 Nonprofit leadership books.
  • 7 charts on how small brands can go big on social.

Video of the week:

  • My favorite movie of the year!

Resources:

  • CrowdTangle best practices.
  • How a US Senator used Facebook ads to influence employees at a single building.

Thank you,

Shaun Dakin – Dakin Associates

PS:  If anyone asks you to “make this piece of content go viral,” say that there is no way to guarantee the content will go viral.   There are, however, steps you can take to help content go viral.
